A friend of mine who happens to be a Francophone skydiver from Quebec only took up the sport a few years ago. She’s someone who impresses me. She has her motorcycle license, she has her skydiving license and she’s just an overall “bad ass” woman. She gave me permission to post an article that she wrote up for Canpara (Canadian version of Parachutist) This is the article: Skydiving in your early 50s? Written by Normande Cournoyer Translaled by Gaëlle Vercollier Yes, it is possible. ln 2004, around the end of the summer, I was looking for a special project to… » Read more…

Hey everyone! It’s been quite some time since my last post, I’m so sorry about the fact that we haven’t come up with much new content this past while. I’ve had to take a year off from skydiving to sort of reassess where my life is as well as pay off some debts that I sorta just left lying around… I’ve been staring at the skies waiting till my chance to get back up there. I missed the 100 way Canadian record attempt that was done at Parachute Montreal. They didn’t manage to break the record due to weather issues,… » Read more…

So I just got back from Varadero Cuba… Absolutely had to pop into the local DZ to check it out and hopefully to do a few jumps with the locals… Turned out it’s a tandem factory, but they’re fairly welcoming to other skydivers. Weather didn’t permit us to jump on the day of my visit, so we played dominoes together… (I snapped some photos, but haven’t developed them yet) The DZ is actually owned by the government there, they fly a 20 seat soviet chopper (didn’t get to snap any photos of it though) Depending on wind conditions, you either… » Read more…

Hey all, I know it’s been ages since I’ve posted anything… Skydive season’s over, I’ve been dealing with tons of my “real life” stuff, work’s been hectic, planning two vacations, preparing myself for snowboard season, and simply haven’t jumped at all, so had a bit of a lack of material so to speak. I’m actually heading to Cuba November 3rd and I’m hoping to get to jump at the DZ they have in Varadero… They use a WWII Soviet war plane and helicopter, I’m quite excited to jump from them… If they’re still running of course. I’ll hopefully have some… » Read more…

So I finally got the chance to jump the full face helmet I had to wait nearly 2 months to get… It was worth the wait. I’ve gotten 57 jumps done with an open face helmet wearing goggles… After having done 2 jumps with a full face, I don’t know how I managed… I see the ground so much more clearly, it’s not silent, but it’s so much quieter on the way down, I barely hear the annoying flapping of the slider in the wind… And all the stuff I heard about peoples’ full faces fogging up has now been… » Read more…

It’s been 4 days since then, and I’m still feeling the after effects of Saturday. I started everything off by partying with some friends Friday night and got to bed around 4:30AM… Woke up the next morning at 8:00AM to pick up some friends at the Metro (Subway) and then head to the DZ. My mom, being a pastry chef decided that she wanted to make me some cookies and brownies to bring with me, so I had about 3 boxes of junk food with me along with my skydive gear, a small ziplock back full of cherries, my box… » Read more…
